My Laptop
About two weeks ago, I finally cracked open the bottom of my old laptop and cleaned out the dust. Boy, was there a lot. This poor old Asus Zenbook has been my partner in crime since just before I went to university, which means it is about 6 years old. In those 6 years, I carried it on buses weekly, dropped it occasionally, wrote unbelievable amounts of smutty fanfiction with it, played a LOT of Overwatch on it, and generally treated it pretty badly. Over time it got slower and slower until I could barely use it as a movie-watching device. I let it fester in the corner of my room for a few months until I finally decided to factory reset it and give it a proper clean out. There was so much dust in one of the fans that I couldn't tell what it was. Fortunately, an old toothbrush and some elbow grease later, and this bad boy is as good as new. In fact, I'm using it to write this blog post!
The message there is that if you have some old tech sitting around like a phone or laptop, try cleaning it out and factory resetting it. It may very well surprise you and avoid becoming e-waste for another five years.
Besides cleaning out my laptop, I've also recently finished my first embroidery project, nearly finished reading the quran, fully finished reading Journey to the West, and successfully planted two lovely Daylilies that are currently flowering in my garden. I feel quite pleased about all this; I'm the kind of person who absolutely MUST have a project I'm working towards or I feel awful. I can't imagine being the kind of person who isn't always doing something. For starters, that kind of person usually becomes incredibly dull. This leads into what I want to gripe about today; my friend's partner.
My friend, who I'll call A, is a very good friend and we've known each other for a decade. A unfortunately dates an old high school friend of mine who I now find utterly insufferable. We'll call them E. E is dull as dishwater. They only read fantasy fiction, they don't seem to watch much of anything, they only talk about their job, and have basically no interesting life experiences that might contribute towards becoming a mature, rounded person. They come across as fundamentally incurious and uneducated, while also having a personality I can only describe as 'tumblr'. Not pleasant. I'm polite to them of course, because I'm not a bastard, but I would really prefer that A break up with them so I don't have to be around them ever. Obviously that is selfish and I would never tell him this - I just think it and write it in my diary. Fortunately I can rest assured that no matter what, I am leagues more intelligent than E and I can smugly remember this any time they get on my nerves. (Note: I'm not really that smart, it's just not a high bar.)
Finally, It's getting to Christmas time. Yippee! Can you believe it? Christmas! Just a week away! My birthday is the day before christmas so I'm about to become old (24). My one hope for this birthday is that I get to decide what we have for dinner.
