The Dating Scene

After a very, very long time, I am back in the dating scene, baby! Following a tumultuous teenage romance that ended in tragedy and depression, my romantic escapades were limited to rebounds or faltering long-distance relationships that never went anywhere. After a good long time I've decided this is the year I get back in the saddle and I've already had pretty good results with dating apps. I've made one friend and have a dinner date next wednesday, which I look forward to with no small amount of trepidation. While my likelihood of finding a partner has increased from zero to something near zero, it is still a low likelihood so I am trying to come at the whole thing with a positive outlook - even if it doesn't go anywhere. After all, I can't say I didn't try.

I recently bought the Wanikani life pass. As the crushing knowledge that learning is a lifelong endeavour has fully set in, I'm back on that SRS grind trying to learn kanji. What's funny to me is how some of the simplest words can actually be the ones that trip me up. I've been watching Hikakin's hikakura 2 series and while building his house, he used the words '血圧' (blood pressure) and ’ルックス' (looks, literally pronounced 'rukkusu'). Unbelievably, I got 血圧 no problem and just couldn't for the life of me work out what he meant by ルックス. I was thinking, rooks? Like in chess???? I felt pretty silly after searching it in my dictionary app. Fumbling aside, he's a pretty fun youtuber to watch. He's kind of hyper and the videos are clearly for a family-friendly audience, but his stuff is engaging and not overwhelming. His gaming videos especially are easy to follow and it's been fun learning all the words for minecraft mobs and materials. So far he's made a house he thinks looks like tofu, and constantly forgets that if you don't take breaths underwater you'll die.

I got the HPV vaccine last week. I would recommend everybody else do the same if you haven't already!!! It reduces the risk of cancer if you get the vaccine, so literally why wouldn't you? But it did make my arm hurt and I am NOT looking forward to getting two more shots. They should invent vaccines that you can eat or snort up your nose or something. Anything but the needle...
